The Idea
Tariq Al-Zuhoor is a non-profit association founded by Naseer Shamma in 2005, aiming to give Iraqi children a better future through medical care and the support they need to become active members of society.
The association covers the full cost of treatment for Iraqi children suffering from congenital heart disease — accompanying them to India for complex surgery that cannot be performed in Iraq, and ensuring their safe return home. Travel and accommodation for the child and one accompanying parent are fully covered. Since its founding, more than 800 children have been treated through a long-standing partnership with Narayana Health City in Bangalore, India.
This partnership has scaled to the point of treating up to 30 children per month — roughly one child every day.
